2007 was the 100th anniversary of the Scout movement. 1st Crowborough Scout Group was formed in 1908 and so 2008 is our centenary year. To celebrate this we wanted to mark it with a chance in a lifetime expedition trip to the Far East including China, Macau and Hong Kong, scheduled to depart in July 2009. We are taking 40 Scouts, Explorers, Network and Leaders
We are flying into Hong Kong during the last week of July 2009 and returning after 14 days. We will be staying in Macau, Hong Kong, and Beijing and taking in the Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors.
This is a fantastic opportunity for the young people, who are getting bad press currently with knife crime and gang culture, so I am hopeful that this ‘good news’ story will be featured in many TV and Radio programmes as well as the local press.
We have been able to obtain some sponsorship for the expedition through a percentage off of clothing and accessories through Cotswold and Peglars and have received a number of items from Kimberly Clark.
As you can see this will be a fantastic opportunity for all Scouts who are able to go. This trip has never been organised before and we will be one of the first Scout Groups to visit China. We will be meeting with local scout groups whilst we are visiting Hong Kong and we are in the process of arranging an exchange with the Macau Scout Commissioner .
